Take a Look at our Special EventsEach room at Simcha has a general schedule of events, but the children love it when we do something special. Our special events take place downstairs in the Temple's social hall or sanctuary, outdoors on the Temple's extensive grounds, at nearby attractions such as our neighbor's farm or the local playground, or off-site with parent-provided transportation. Tu B'Shevat - New Year for TreesWe use Jewish holidays in the classroom not only to create the basis for understanding Judaism for both our Jewish and non-Jewish students, but also to celebrate the non-religious aspects of the holidays. Tu B'Shevat is a wonderful holiday for children -- it's all about celebrating trees! We plant trees with the children and have a special seder -- ritual meal -- in which we eat the fruits and nuts that trees give us.
Our First Children's Book FestivalOur very first Children's Book Festival went very well. We had storytelling from the public library's Jeanne O'Grady and Micah the Fabulous Storyteller, music from Dror of Rhythm Fusion, and talk with Bookshop Santa Cruz's Gay Lombard. The kids enjoyed doing lots of arts and crafts and getting new books. The parents enjoyed the fabulous choices from Bookshop and the unbeatable deals from our used table. And is there any Simcha event without lots of great munchies?
Autumn, Sukkot, and Celebrating the HarvestThe children had a great time this year celebrating Sukkot inside their own classroom sukkah, in the Temple sukkah, and out in the world visiting pumpkin a patch.
